Malkin and Crosby both nominated for ESPYS

The ESPYS are coming up on July 11th and the city of Pittsburgh doesn’t have many nominated this year.  But a couple of Penguins were nominated in two different categories.  Evgeni Malkin was nominated for Best NHL Player.  His competition is Steven Stamkos, Henrik Lundqvist, Jonathan Quick and Claude Giroux (barf).

Sidney Crosby was also […]

Malkin wins three awards in Vegas including Hart Trophy

Evgeni Malkin arrived in Vegas knowing that he would absolutely be taking home the Art Ross Trophy for the most points scored in a season.  But Malkin walked away with two more trophies.  He also won the Ted Lindsay award which is the trophy for an outstanding player voted on by his peers and he […]

Penguins pull out a big win in game 4

Last night started out much the same as the past three games, penalties, soft goals and a crazy period.  The Flyers continue to be strong on the Power Play going 3 for 5.  But last night on 8 power plays the Penguins had they scored on 4 of them and gave up no shorthanded […]

Good weekend for Pittsburgh: Malkin hits 50 goals, Pirates take down Phillies

As most of the BB&G crew was out and about this weekend unable to post about the fantastic sports weekend we had, I thought I would do a quick review.

Even though the Pirates lost the home opener to Philadelphia on Thursday, 1-0 they bounced back in spectacular fashion.  They took down […]

Malkin and Crosby “dirtiest players” according to Flyers assistant coach

The aftermath of the fight between the Flyers and the Penguins is almost worse than the actual fight.  There has been constant talk from both sides since Sunday, and even some people not involved with the organizations.  Let’s review and then we’ll get to the new stuff from today.

First there was the fight on […]

Penguins drop second straight game to Islanders

When they lost on Tuesday, I thought oh well maybe they were feeling cocky and one got away from them, better to happen now than in the playoffs.  But after last night do we need to worry?  I still don’t think so.   If we were going to drop a few games, I would […]

Evgeni Malkin named NHL First Star of the Week again

This is becoming repetitive news, but Evgeni Malkin did it again he was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week.   This is only the second time this season that he’s been named First Star, he’s been a Second once and Third Star twice.  In the last week Malkin has added 5 goals […]

It was just another night of beautiful hockey for Penguins fans.  Another 5 goal night.  Another 2 goals for who better be MVP Evgeni Malkin.  Not to mention Fleury recorded his 40th win of the season, the first goaltender to hit that mark so far this year.  Oh and James Neal had 4 assists.  This […]

Pens light up Jets to start a new streak

The March of the Penguins continued Tuesday Night as the Pens put a thumping on the outgunned Winnipeg Jets by a score of 8-4.  The game was played at a frantic pace as both teams seemed to abandon any thoughts of playing defense.  The action was continuous as both teams saw countless scoring chances, but […]

Let’s make that 10, Penguins beat Rangers

I’m going to have to go to the thesaurus to find more words for dominate, punish, beat, destroy etc because that’s what the Penguins have been doing to their opponents lately and I’m starting to feel repetitive.    It doesn’t hurt that a couple more of our big guns returned to the lineup last night in […]

Kris Letang will play tonight against Rangers

It’s official, Kris Letang confirmed this morning that he will play tonight against the Rangers.   For the first time all season, all our big guns are going to be on the ice.  When Crosby returned the first time Kris Letang was out with a concussion then.  We also have all three of our centers, […]

Yesterday was a great day for the Penguins on the ice, but it was extra good for Hart Trophy hopeful Evgeni Malkin.  He scored his 500th career point yesterday (and added 501 & 502 just for good measure).  Malkin now has 196 goals and 306 assists in the 413 games of his NHL […]
