The Steelers played an awesome game this week and looked like the team we all know and love. They have what should be two easy weeks coming up with Jacksonville and Arizona coming to town with a combined record of 2-8 so things are looking good for the Steelers this week. Hines Ward is [...] The Pittsburgh Panthers and Syracuse have officially joined the ACC. They make the 13th and 14th school to join the division. This is a step up in the football world but it may be a lateral step in the basketball world. The ACC wants to create a 16 team league. The 2 other schools [...] The Pittsburgh Panthers have applied to join the ACC. The team wants to leave the Big East and head to a conference that is more respected around the nation. No one shows the Big East any love and the move could be good for the Panthers in football. This just shows you how important [...] Former Pitt standout Dorin Dickerson is working out for the Steelers. Dickerson was a player without a position at Pitt and in the NFL he has been moved to Wide Receiver. Dickerson’s primary position at Pitt would be considered one of those positions the Steelers use often now and that is the H-Back. Dickerson [...] Former Pittburgh Panther Fullback Henry Hynoski will be a New York Giant this season. I was hoping Hynoski would end up a Steeler. He would have been a good fit. He will be suiting up for the G Men though. Former Pittsburgh Panther Dom DeCicco has joined the Chicago Bears. DeCicco played Safety while at Pitt. He will be an Outside Linebacker in Chicago. He received interest from the Bills, Bears, Saints and Steelers. DeCicco chose the Bears over his hometown team because the Bears gave him a pre draft visit. He felt comfortable [...] Pitt’s number one draft prospect Jonathan Baldwin has acquired some great advice from former Pitt Football stars while preparing for the NFL Draft. Baldwin is working out with New York Jets All-Pro Cornerback Darrelle Revis and Arizona Cardinals All-Pro Receiver Larry Fitzgerald. These are two of the best guys to get information from. Revis [...] Hot off of the presses as per, oh, five minutes ago via Chris Peak’s Twitter feed it has been reported that starting Panther tight end Mike Cruz has elected to leave the team after being suspended yesterday for a violation of team rules. Todd Graham came in rattling his saber and threatening to increase [...] The Panther representation at the Combine was something of a mixed bag this year. Some players tested well, though no one tested so phenomenally well that they became a must-draft player, some players did not perform terribly well at all and one former Panther somehow managed to both impress and disappoint at the same [...] The Pittsburgh Panthers will be represented well at the combine and in the NFL Draft this year. They have six players who will attend the combine and all of them should be drafted along with a few more non-drafted invitee candidates. This is the order in which I see them being drafted right now. [...] Todd Graham faced a steep uphill battle from the moment that he took the Pitt job as he was tasked with assembling a full recruiting class for the Panthers in spite of starting from only four remaining committed players. To that end Graham and his staff did a fantastic job by leaving literally no stone unturned in order to find players that fit his system, snapping up a host of under-recruited and just plain unknown Southern talent. In addition to scouting literally everywhere, Coach Graham also made a lot of noise by pushing hard on highly sought after players who were dismissed as un-recruitable by the previous staff. In the end he may have come up just short on some of the bigger names, including Woodland Hills linebacker Ejuan Price (Ohio State), the McKeesport pair of Delvon Simmons (North Carolina) and Branden Jackson (Texas Tech) and California quarterback Michael Eubank (Arizona State), but the impression that Graham was able to make in such a short time bodes well going forward. However today isn’t really about bemoaning the players that you failed to land (unless you are Alabama and stud offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio spurned you for your arch nemesis across the state), it is instead about celebrating the players that you did sign. And in that regard the Panthers did quite well for themselves; not only did Pitt manage to sign a nearly full complement of twenty players but those twenty players are comparable to the recruiting classes of the rest of the Big East conference. (except for Louisville who kicked some serious ass) Moreover, the players that the Panthers signed today are ideally suited for the hurry-up offense and aggressive 3-4 defense that Graham wants to install…I would not be shocked to see four or perhaps even five of this group make a serious impact as true freshmen and that is a pretty nice ratio indeed.
