Still no word on Jaromir Jagr

So, after spending all day yesterday on “Jagr Watch” there has still been no word from the Penguins or Jagr’s camp.  I feel like we are reliving the LeBron James saga from last year.  So help me if Jagr does an hour long special on ESPN and then tells us that he’s taking his talents to the Motor City.

There are all kinds of reports out there.  But here is what we do know.  Jagr was supposed to land in New York around 4pm yesterday.  And at that point it seemed that we were to be informed of his decision.  Maybe his plane got delayed because of the turtle problem at JFK.  I’m not joking that actually was a problem yesterday.  But regardless no word.  No one actually knows if he flew on to somewhere else or spent the night in New York.  Fans apparently gathered at the Pittsburgh International Airport to greet him but there was no sign of him.  So, basically no one has any idea where he is.

But the Trib is reporting that:

But longtime acquaintances of team co-owner Mario Lemieux and NHL agents told the Tribune-Review an agreement was in place even as Jagr flew from the Czech Republic to the United States.

But if that’s the case, Shero is insisting he knows nothing.  I would hope we would find out today, and the sooner the better.

In other news, the Pens signed Aaron Asham yesterday and gave him a cool $75,000 raise.  Apparently that doesn’t bode well for Mike Rupp.  I guess we’ll see what happens, but free agency starts tomorrow.

It appears that Jagr is trying to squeeze more money from Pittsburgh, if he agreed to a deal in principal and then shops his services around then, well, it looks like the same old immature Jagr, he still has not grown up.
